Exposed Firearms Permit Requalification

This course is for active California BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit holders completing the required range qualifications during their permit’s two-year term. To qualify for renewal, permit holders must complete four range qualifications:

• Two qualifications during each 12-month period of the current two-year permit term.
• No two qualifications may be completed fewer than four months apart.
• Before each range qualification, the permit holder must complete the required Use of Force and De-escalation training.

Permit holders must also pass the written Firearms Examination from the BSIS Firearms Training Manual with a score of 86% or higher. The law does not specify during which qualification the examination must be completed; however, BSIS recommends taking it during the second 12-month period of the current permit term.
