To qualify for renewal, permit holders must complete four range qualifications:

  • Two qualifications during each 12-month period of the current two-year permit term.
  • No two qualifications may be completed fewer than four months apart.
  • Before each range qualification, the permit holder must complete the required Use of Force and De-escalation training.

Permit holders must also pass the written Firearms Examination from the BSIS Firearms Training Manual with a score of 86% or higher. The law does not specify during which qualification the examination must be completed; however, BSIS recommends taking it during the second 12-month period of the current permit term.

]]> This is a two-day, 16-hour course split evenly between classroom instruction and live-fire range training. The curriculum focuses on safe firearm handling, legal requirements, and practical concealed carry fundamentals needed to support your CCW application.

Important: You must already have CCW application approval from your local Sheriff’s office before attending this class — course completion alone does not qualify you for a permit.

What You’ll Learn

Classroom Instruction

  • Legal responsibilities of concealed carry
  • California laws regarding firearms and use of force
  • Safe gun handling principles
  • Ethical carry considerations
  • Defensive mindset and situational awareness

Live-Fire Range Training

  • Practical exercises under instructor supervision
  • Safe manipulation and control drills
  • Live-fire fundamentals for accuracy and confidence
  • Personalized coaching from qualified trainers

This combination ensures you’re trained for both the legal and practical aspects of carrying a firearm.

Scheduling & Format

  • Format: Two-day training — classroom + range sessions
  • Typical Times: Class runs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day for most events (check the calendar for exact times)
  • Locations: Courses are hosted in multiple locations, including Stockton and Concord, CA
  • Wait Times: CCW approval wait times vary by county; plan your training around your local Sheriff’s timeline

Course Fee: $250 per student for the full 16-hour Firearm & CCW training.

This includes:

  • All classroom instruction

  • Training documentation required for CCW submission

Registration & Expectations

When you attend, expect:

  • A structured schedule with meaningful instruction both in class and on the range
